The Business Story of New Venture Telecom

New Venture Telecom (NVT) was built on a simple idea: telecom partners deserve a contractor who treats their network like mission-critical infrastructure, not just another job ticket.

New Venture Telecom Location

From day one, NVT positioned itself squarely in the telecom world - DC power systems, transport upgrades, battery replacements, cabinet work, and the kind of field services that keep networks alive. While many contractors tried to be everything to everyone, NVT focused on one thing: supporting carriers, MSOs, and network operators with precision, reliability, and accountability.

NVT didn’t stumble into telecom; it was engineered for it.

  • Started in 2000 by a retired AT&T Power and Grounding Engineer named Steven J King, who saw a need.
  • A local contractor could easily focus on the needs of the telecommunication providers in the state, provide great service and make a good living for himself and his employee families.

NVT didn’t stumble into telecom; it was engineered for it.

  • Every process was designed around the realities of carrier work: uptime, documentation, compliance, safety, and repeatable quality.
  • Every hire was made with field readiness in mind—technicians who could walk onto a site, understand the environment, and execute without hand-holding.
  • Every proposal, SOW, and material list was crafted to anticipate real-world constraints, not idealized drawings.

This discipline became NVT’s signature. Partners learned quickly that NVT didn’t cut corners, didn’t disappear when things got tough, and didn’t leave loose ends for someone else to clean up.

Take care of business. Do it right the first time. Stand behind the work.

Vigilant Power Solutions (VPS) was founded in 2008 by Gary Rester, a DC Power Service engineer who spent two decades designing and maintaining DC power and stationary battery systems for substations, grid-support facilities, and industrial power environments. Rester started VPS after seeing a gap in the market: utilities needed a maintenance contractor that combined engineering-grade precision with field-ready execution, not just generic electrical labor. Rester crafted a Battery and Charger maintenance program modeled after IEEE and NERC code to fill a need for skilled contractors to maintain the critical back-up equipment used in Generating Station and Substation power. It is a niche not many electrical or general contractors can fill. In 2011 VPS and NVT merged. NVT still maintains a DBA called Vigilant Power Solutions.

Merger Overview: New Venture Telecom & Vigilant Power Solutions

The merger of New Venture Telecom (NVT) and Vigilant Power Solutions (VPS) brings together two complementary infrastructure specialists to form a unified provider of end-to-end telecom and critical-power services. The combined organization integrates NVT’s deep expertise in telecom field services, DC power systems, and multi-site deployments with VPS’s strengths in stationary power, battery systems, and IEEE maintenance solutions.

Strategic Rationale

  • Unified Power + Telecom Capability: The merger creates a single contractor capable of delivering everything from fiber and transport upgrades to DC power plants, battery replacements, grounding, and site hardening.
  • Stronger Multi-Site Execution: Both companies bring established processes for managing complex, geographically distributed projects—allowing the merged entity to scale efficiently for carriers, utilities, and cable operators.
  • Enhanced Compliance & Risk Management: Combining NVT’s telecom-grade documentation and VPS’s safety-driven power engineering results in a more robust compliance posture across NERC, IEEE, OSHA, and carrier-specific standards.
  • Broader Technical Bench Strength: Field technicians, project managers, and engineers now operate under a unified structure, improving response times, troubleshooting capability, and specialized labor availability.

Expanded Service Portfolio

The merged company can now deliver a fully integrated suite of services, including:

  • DC power plant installation, upgrades, and commissioning
  • Stationary battery replacement, removal, and recycling
  • Fiber and transport infrastructure deployment
  • Cabinet, inverter, and rectifier upgrades
  • Preventive maintenance and site audits
  • Emergency restoration and rapid-response field services
  • Turnkey project management with full documentation packages
